  34. Went into Radio Shack the other day, to see if their discone antenna looked
  35. like a worth-while investment as a broadband TX/RX antenna. They didn't
  36. have one in stock.

  38. In any case, I saw the '94 catalog and asked for one. "That'll be three 
  39. dollars" says the sales droid. "What?" says I, "you're charging for them?"
  40. "We are this year," he replies. Seeing coupons for about eight bucks in
  41. the front, I fork over the cash.

  43. "Last four digits of your phone number?" he says.
  44.  
  45. "That'll be three dollars," I reply.
  46.  
  47. "Pardon?" he says, confused.
  48.  
  49. "I'm charging for mailing-list information --- this year," I reply.

  72. Some questions first.  How far apart are the readings and what are the
  73. specifications on the individual meters.  If you assume there is a large
  74. difference then something else may be wrong. If the difference is small
  75. it could still be within the spec of the meter.
  76.  
  77. One thing you can do is find a meter that has been calibrated recently
  78. say from a friend or at work and check the meters against it. Using
  79. mercury cells can be tricky and not all meters are alike.

  200. The last school group contact was completed yesterday.  The Portsmouth HS 
  201. in Portsmouth, New Hampshire had a telebridge contact using stations in 
  202. California (Ralph Warner, N6MNN) and Texas (Bob Douglas, W5GEL).  The 
  203. students asked 5 questions during this bridge contact.
  204.  
  205. Hams across the U.S. and around the world continue to work the Shuttle 
  206. Columbia on both voice and packet.  Moreover, the completion of school 
  207. group contacts has cleared several school backup passes for possible 
  208. general QSO opportunities.  While the SAREX Working Group cannot fully 
  209. guarantee availability, there is a high probability that the STS-58 crew 
  210. will be ready to take general calls over the continental U.S. on these 
  211. passes.  Two of these "scheduled" passes remain.  These include orbit 
  212. 178 at MET 11 days 1 hour 42 minutes (10/29 at 16:35 UTC) and orbit 192 
  213. at MET 11 days 22 hours and 29 minutes (10/30 at 13:22 UTC).  Please note 
  214. that the astronauts operated voice during yesterday's "scheduled" pass 
  215. which occurred on 10/27 at 14:59 UTC (Orbit 145).  Also note that hams on 
  216. the ground heard or worked the Shuttle Columbia crew on several other orbits 
  217. yesterday.
